Introduction to Pandas for Data Manipulation (intermediate level)

The Hot Source! project, funded by AHRC, is organizing an online workshop on February 28th, 2024, as part of its training activities from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. 

This workshop is designed for individuals who either have some prior experience with Python or wish to strengthen their Python skills, specifically focusing on data analysis and manipulation.  

Participants will learn the fundamentals of using Pandas, a powerful Python library for data manipulation and analysis. 

The workshop will cover various topics, including an introduction to Pandas, where participants will learn about the basic concepts and functionalities of Pandas. They will also explore the different data structures in Pandas, such as Series and DataFrame, and understand how to work with them effectively. 

The attendees will then dive into data manipulation and analysis with Pandas, where they will learn how to perform various operations on data, such as filtering, sorting, and aggregating. They will also learn how to handle missing data and perform data cleaning and pre-processing using Pandas. 

In addition, the course will cover data visualization with Pandas, where participants will learn how to create visual representations of data using Pandas’ built-in plotting capabilities. They will learn how to create various types of plots, such as line plots, bar plots, and scatter plots, to effectively communicate insights from data. 

By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a solid understanding of Pandas and its capabilities for data manipulation, analysis, cleaning, pre-processing, and visualization. They will be equipped with the necessary skills to effectively work with data using Pandas in their research or professional projects. 

This course is suitable for participants with a good understanding of the basics of Python. After completing this course, participants may consider seeking additional resources from intermediate-level workshops available on topics such as Introduction to NER, Sentiment Analysis, and Topic Modeling. 

In addition to this workshop, participants can register for a 1:1 ‘Practical Surgery’ session on 6th March.
