National Imaginaries in Online Fandoms
This project investigates how national imaginaries are reinterpreted across large-scale born-digital fandom archives. Focusing on multimodal data from platforms such as AO3, Lofter, Reddit, and Rednote, it looks into how cultural identities circulate and transform within participatory online communities. Fan-produced texts and images constitute one of the largest datasets of contemporary digital culture, but remain under-utilised in large-scale digital humanities research. By using HPC and DRI, the project aims to develop scalable computational methods to capture and analyse the transcultural reshaping of cultural identities in participatory digital communities.
